DİYARBAKIR - Within the scope of the investigation launched in 2019 about DTK Co-Chair Leyla Güven, a new indictment was prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office with the allegation of ‘’making the propaganda for the terrorist organization’’.

 

Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has prepared a new indictment against Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chair Leyla Güven, with the allegation of ‘’making the propaganda for the terrorist organization’’. In the indictment prepared regarding the investigation launched in 2019; the digital media posts she made in 2015 and 2019, and her participation and giving a speech in the events organized by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), of which she is its MP, were made the accusation subject.

 

The indictment also includes the speech she made on the HDP Diyarbakır Provincial Organization page at the meeting held in 2019 at the HDP Bağlar district building with the members of the HDP Party Council and Central Executive Board, and the co-chairs of the regional provinces.

 

November 25 speech considered as a crime

 

In addition, the speech she made after the march held in the Ofis town of Yenişehir district of Diyarbakır within the scope of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25 was also considered as a crime in the indictment. Again, in the indictment, it was noted that Leyla Güven was complained to the Presidential Communications Center (CIMER) for retweeting someone else’s post on digital media in 2019, and an investigation was launched in this regard.

 

Leyla said the following in her defense against the accusations made against her in 2019 at the prosecutor’s office:

 

‘’I do not accept the accusations against me. I have been the Co-Chair of DTK since March 2016. Due to this duty I carried out, I participated in many events as an invitee. I attend many of these events as a speechmaker. When looking at the file, there are no footages of me speaking in some places. As for social media posts, I previously gave a defense within the scope of the lawsuit filed at the 9th High Criminal Court of Diyarbakır. Some of my speeches are in Kurdish. When these speeches are translated by the expert, a mistake occurs’’.

 

The prosecutor said that Leyla’s social media posts constituted ‘’propaganda for a terrorist organization’’ and demanded that she be punished for propaganda.

While the prepared indictment is accepted by the Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court, Leyla’s first hearing will be held on December 15.

 

27 years prison sentence had given to Leyla in total

 

On the other hand, in the case held before in the Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court, the 22 years prison sentence had given to Leyla for ‘’being a member of a terrorist organization’’ and ‘’making propaganda for a terrorist organization’’. Hakkari 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance also sentenced her to five years in prison for the expression ‘’Mr. Öcalan’’.
