DİYARBAKIR - The Republican People’s Party (CHP) held a sit-in in 81 cities of Turkey with the motto, “We demand democracy, not state of emergency”. “We will grow this solidarity make these squares the squares of peace and democracy,” said the people during the sit-in.

 

The Republican People’s Party (CHP) held a sit-in in 81 cities of Turkey with the motto, “We demand democracy, not state of emergency”. The protest was also held at Diyarbakır’s Şex Sait (Dağkapı) Square. CHP MPs Sezgin Tanrıkulu and Necati Yılmaz, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) provincial administration, the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions (DİSK) regional representative Mehmet Şirin Gürbüz and the administration of the Genel-İş, Platform for Sur and Labour Party (EMEP) also attended the sit-in. The people carried banners reading, “Immediate democracy, not state of emergency”, “Democracy is freedom”, “Don’t extend state of emergency, lift the state of emergency” and “No to KHK (emergency decrees)”. CHP Diyarbakır Chairperson Mehmet Sayın read the statement.

 

Adıyaman

 

CHP members gathered at Adıyaman’s Democracy Park with the motto, “We demand democracy, not state of emergency”. The people chanted slogans such as, “We will win by resisting”, “Right, law, justice” and “Shoulder to shoulder against fascism”. CHP Hatay MP Birol Erkan, members of the HDP, DBP (Democratic Regions Party), EMEP and Adıyaman Bar Association and many citizens attended the protest.

 

Malatya

 

CHP members gathered at Malatya’s Soykan Park to protest the state of emergency. The people carried the banners reading, “Democracy, not state of emergency” and “No to the state of emergency”. Members of the CHP,HDP, DBP, EMEP and KESK attended the protest.

 

Istanbul

 

Police didn’t allow the CHP members to hold the sit in at Taksim Square in Istanbul. The members of the CHP therefore held the sit in on İstiklal Avenue.
