MARDİN - “Don’t let our children to grow up without us,” said Nurşan Demir and Yasemin Erkol, who are among those who were jailed after being evacuated from Nusaybin during the curfew.

 

Second hearing of the case against 50 of 67 people, who were jailed by the court after being evacuated from Nusaybin district of Mardin, where a curfew was declared on March 14, 2016, will be held on April 16 by Mardin 4th High Criminal Court. 76 aggravated life imprisonments have been demanded for the jailed people by the prosecutor. Yasemin Erkol (35) and Nurşan Demir (45) are two of jailed 50 people and they have been held in prison for two years. Yasemin has seven children while Nurşan has five. They call for solidarity to the public opinion in order to be gathered to their children.

 

They stand trial for not leaving their homes!

 

Nurşan Demir and Yasemin Erkol, who were jailed for not leaving their homes, have lived separated from their children for two years. Being subjected to sexual torture, Nurşan testified at the first hearing. Yasemin hasn’t defended herself because she wasn’t present at the first hearing.

 

Call for solidarity from Nurşan

 

Nurşan called for solidarity from Mardin E-type Prison through her family and she said she wanted to be gathered to her children. Nurşan, who has been behind bars for two years just for not leaving her home, appealed to the public opinion to stand for her case and she said she didn’t want her children to grow up without their mother.

 

‘I want to see my children’

 

“They forced me to sign everything because they took my statement under torture. After that statement, they put me in prison. I face constantly torture in the prison; I haven’t been treated even though I am injured. They asked me to seek remorse law. But I didn’t do anything to regret. They say I stayed there (Nusaybin) and looked after the wounded people. I want to say that; if there is a wounded person next to me, I will help. I don’t want my children to grow up without me,” said Nurşan.

 

‘Public opinion shouldn’t stay silent’

 

Yasemin sent a message through her family and she said she had been held in Mardin M-type Closed Prison for two years for not leaving her home. Yasemin also said she wanted to be released and she called on the public opinion to not stay silent.
