Police attack on women protesting religious affairs

ANKARA - Police attacked women protesting the comments of the Directorate of Religious Affairs on its official website saying girls as young as nine could marry.
Women of Ankara gathered on Ankara’s Sakarya Avenue to protest the Directorate of Religious Affairs encouraging child marriage on its official website. Police attacked the women by using tear gas and rubber bullets when they began to gather with the motto, “The enemy of children and women, Directorate of Religious Affairs should be closed down”. Some of women were affected from the rear gas. Police have blockaded the Sakarya Avenue. Women are still waiting on the avenue.
