DERSİM – The hunger strike launched by women prisoners in Elazığ T-type Prison against “ID imposition” and ongoing pressures on them has entered in its 61st day. The prisoners are reported to have serious health problems and lose weight. 

 

The hunger strike launched by women prisoners in Elazığ T-type Prison against “ID imposition” and ongoing pressures on them has entered in its 61st day. Since November 1, the prisoners have been on a hunger strike due to “ID imposition” and the dishonorable arbitrary practices. The prisoners haven’t been able to use their right to see their relatives, be in the sick list and their winter clothes haven’t been given to them for refusing to carry out the IDs given to them by the prison administration. 

 

The Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Central Executive Committee member Deniz Bahçeci has made a statement on the latest situation in prison and she said the pressures in the prison continued for four months; “Four months ago, the prison manager said this practice was imposed but during my visit four months ago I knew this practice was imposed. The prison manager made a false statement to the families. The similar pressures have begun to be imposed on wards of men and these pressures have begun to be imposed not only in Elazığ but also in Malatya.” 

 

‘It is not a coincidence’ 

 

Underlining that Elazığ Prison has been used as a plot prison to turn the prisons into prison camps, Deniz said, “It is not a coincidence that the ID imposition was begun just before the one-type uniform practice has been put into effect by issued last emergency decree. “

 

‘Everyone should follow’ 

 

Indicating that the prisoners have faced serious health problems and they have lost weight, Deniz added, “Besides all these, they cannot use their right to health. Their winter clothes have been given to them and there is a cloth problem. No news has been obtained from prisoners. Everyone should follow what is going on in the prison.”
