NEWS CENTER - TAJÊ reacted against the Iraqi government's decision to close the Yazidi camps, stating that this means the continuation of genocide and demanded the decision to be canceled.
The Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Immigration announced that Yazidis who settled in camps such as Duhok after the genocidal attacks of ISIS in 2014 will be included in the “integration law”. In line with this decision, the camps will be closed, the Yazidis will be made permanent in the regions where they are located and will lose their immigration status.
In a letter to the ministry, the Yazidi Free Women's Movement (TAJÊ) described this step as “a continuation of the genocide” and “an attempt to change the demographic structure of Sinjar”. The letter emphasized that the Iraqi government should be rebuilding houses and developing projects to encourage the return of Yazidis to their homeland, but instead it has taken dangerous decisions for the community.
The letter included the following statements: "Uprooting our people means the continuation of genocide. On the one hand, thousands of ISIS members are pardoned and released from prisons, on the other hand, Yazidis are prevented from returning to their lands. If Yazidis do not return, who will protect them? The reality of the 2014 edict is still before our eyes."
In its letter, TAJÊ made the following demands to the Iraqi government:
"*The decision taken on August 20 should be canceled.
*The necessary facilities should be provided for the return of the Yazidis and houses should be rebuilt.
*Develop projects that will create employment in Sinjar and encourage the return of the people to their lands."
