MUĞLA - Stating that Burçin Akıncı, who recruited her, sexually harassed her and threatened her, Duygu Yıldız stated that she complained against this but still has not achieved results and called on women to "be brave" in the face of the violence they experienced.
Duygu Yıldız, who wanted to start work for Anka Grass Landscape Fertilizer Company with the advice of her contact about a year ago, was subjected to sexual harassment, violence and racist rhetoric by the employer named Burçin Akıncı. Duygu told our agency about her experiences.
First tried to make attractive offers
Duygu stated that a man named Burçin Akıncı from Anka Grass Landscape Fertilizer Company, whom she met through a contact to find a job, harassed, and threatened her after he recruited her. A few days after she started to work, while she was in the shuttle bus on Saturday, she said that she stayed after the employees dispersed and that Burçin Akıncı had threatened her with a sharp object in a secluded place at the entrance of Bodrum. Emphasizing that she was taken to work by saying "You will stand by me and take notes", Duygu explained her experiences as follows: "He said, there are places where I get orders, I will do whatever they say. He asked me to use a gun or even commit murder. I said that I would not accept it in any way. He showed off his ring, with the moon and star on it. He knew that I am from Diyarbakır. He may have done it to scare me. He threatened me with my son. He knew I would not accept it. First, he had talked to me and learned that I had a child. He said I was going to obey him and hit when he said hit. When he opened my son's subject, I accepted it. He harassed me when I said I do not accept."
Forced to use a gun
Noting that the perpetrator wanted to shoot a bird in a forested area when they came to Milas, Duygu said: "I said I cannot shoot. He said, "I will run away, you will shoot me, if you cannot shoot, you will run away, and I will shoot". I did not tell anyone for three days out of fear. I cried at home, could not tell my family. I did not leave the house for three days. Then I reached a contact who I trusted and told about what happened."
‘I heard similar threats from others’
Noting that she met the perpetrator at a resting place every day on her way to work after a year, Duygu said that she learned from the women she met later that the perpetrator harassed different employees in similar ways. Duygu said: “I have heard similar threats from others. I went to the prosecutor’s office a week after this incident, I complained, but there is no result for now. I don't know if anyone else complained."
‘Istanbul Convention should be implemented’
Stating that the concept of “honor” is directed towards women and women should be more courageous against this, Duygu said: “My friend Bensu Narlı was killed by a man. Women should be brave and tell whoever is around."
Referring to the Istanbul Convention, Duygu said: "They have to implement the convention. Women should not die that way."
