DİYARBAKIR - TJA activist Bahar Karakaş stated that they will struggle to end the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan within the framework of the "Em Xwe Diparêzin"( We Defend Ourselves) campaign they started, and said, "We need to knit the resistance that started in the prisons to outside."
Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA- Free Women Assocition) started a campaign with the slogan "Em Xwe Diparêzin" (We Defend Ourselves) against the isolation in Imrali, attacks on native languges, abuse, rape, political genocide and attacks on beliefs. TJA, which has left the 4-month period of the campaign behind, will continue the campaign in 2021 too. TJA stated that they will defend freedom against the system that implements with the Imrali isolation as a political genocide, and they will fight against the isolation imposed on PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan within the scope of the campaign.
'We will be in protests'
TJA activist Bahar Karakaş stated that they traveled street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood and met women during the 4-month campaign. Underlining that the system carries out policies to corrupt every area of life, Bahar said, ''Only we can protect ourselves. We launched this campaign because there was no other mechanism to protect us. And we take our strength from ourselves. One of the headlines of our campaign is the fight against isolation. While we were continuing the campaign, a hunger strike started against the isolation in prisons. Resistance in the prisons is a tradition in the history of Turkey. We will be in protests both to continue the campaign and to be in solidarity with the hunger strikers. We will carry out protests both on the street and on social media."
'Politics goes parallel with isolation'
Stating that it is necessary to knit the resistance that started in prisons to outside, Bahar continued: "We need to be a voice of hunger strikers so that we can achieve the purpose of the action initiated by the prisoners in prison. To end the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, the resistance must be increased. The start came from the prisons again. If only we could fight outside enough and if the prisoners had not started the hunger strike. As TJA, it is our duty to knit a strong solidarity. And we will fight against isolation within the framework of the campaign we started. Politics in Turkey, is paralleled with politics applied to Mr. Abdullah Ocalan. If the isolation imposed upon Mr. Abdullah Öcalan is severe, the atmosphere of politics has become very bad in Turkey."
'The right thing for society is to support the resistance'
Stating that there are serious problems in the society, Bahar emphasized that the society cannot stay silent anymore. "The best thing for the society is to embrace the resistance that started in prisons. As the resistance in the prisons is embraced by society and the resistance expands, it forces the government to be in a solution," said Bahar and continued, "We have achieved this many times. We can do it again. There is an isolation that has been going on for 20 years... There is a long-standing resistance now. The resistance led by Leyla Güven before this has led to unwanted results. Nine people made a sacrifice protest. We, as a people, must react more strongly to avoid similar results again. We have to react faster to support hunger strikers. We must embrace this resistance as soon as possible. If the state approaches in a sensible way and a solution-oriented way this process will bring a huge relief to the people of Turkey. I hope 2021 will bring us the peace we need. Peace brings the solution of all problems. "
