DİYARBAKIR - Writer and Kurdish Language Institute employee Nesrin Hilal Şanlı highlighted that the Kurdish language is the key concept in the development of the national unity and she said, “We can say that the basis of the national unity forms with language.”
Despite cultural assimilation, the Kurdish language, which preserves its existence and improves, keeps its rich vocabulary and dialects alive. Kurdish Language Institute employee Nesrin Hilal Şanlı commented on the struggle of 'national unity', which has been carried out in Northern Kurdistan led by the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), and she emphasized that the native language should be spoken throughout the society. Nesrin said, “If a nation improves itself in military, political, and religious fields but not in language field, the nation moves away from its own nation. We can say that the basis of the national unity forms with language.”
‘Assimilation is going on in Northern Kurdistan’
Nesrin recalled the words of a wise person saying, “Whichever language you speak, you will take the spirit of its nation” and she said, “Language is like the spirit of the people. The culture and art of the nation is also dependent on language. Women have a leading role in a prohibited and assimilated language. No power can prevent women's work for language. For this reason, women can reveal a great power for the language if they join forces. The role of women in national unity is quite important. The Kurdish women should carry out works in four parts of Kurdistan.”
‘We should speak Kurdish everywhere’
Nesrin talked about the attacks on the Kurdish language and she said, “All schools gave lesson in Kurdish language were closed down. The Kurdish teachers were fired by the appointed trustees. As women, we should take a leading role for our language. We should speak our own language everywhere.”
