MERSİN -75-year-old Sise Bingöl was jailed for her jail sentence convicted by the court and then she was exiled to Tarsus T-type Closed Prison without informing her family. Sise Bingöl was reportedly hospitalized last week.  “During my visits to her, I observe that she has great difficulties due to the conditions in the prison,” said her lawyer Gülşen Özbek. 

 

75-year-old Sise Bingöl was arrested on April, 2016 and after two and half months she was released from prison due to her medical condition. Grandmother Sise was arrested again on April 8 for her four years and two months jail sentence convicted by the court. She was sent to Muş T-type Prison. Then she was exiled to Tarsus T-type Closed Prison without informing her lawyer and family. According to reports received, grandmother Sise was hospitalized last year due to condition she faced while she had been transferred to the prison. 

 

Her lawyer Gülşen Özbek said, “Grandmother Sise is trying to maintain her life in prison despite her health problems. She has a heart and tension problems. She has been hospitalized many times in prison. She has medical report saying she cannot stay in prison without having support. But she was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute and she was given a report saying different.” 

 

‘She often becomes sick due to the conditions in prison’ 

 

Stating that grandmother Sise didn’t want to go to hospital due to the report given by the Forensic Medicine Institute, Gülşen said, “She didn’t go to hospital for a long time. But she was hospitalized last week because her tension increased and she had a heart problem.” 

 

“During my visits to her, I observe that she has great difficulties due to the conditions in the prison,” Gülşen said, “She was handcuffed and no food was given to her durşng the journey from the prison in Muş to the prison in Tarsus and she was kept outside in the cold for hours when she was exiled from the prison and these situation cause negative effects on her health. Holding a person of this age in prison is legally unacceptable.”

 

‘Grandmother Sise should be released from prison immediately’ 

 

Gülşen lastly said, “Grandmother Sise’s health problems are getting worse day by day. Grandmother Sise should be released from prison immediately in order to protect social conscience.”
