Statement from TJA on ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’

AMED - In a statement regarding the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ resistance that began after the murder of Jina Emînî and is now entering its third year, TJA said, “The women's uprising cannot be explained solely by the headscarf; this is an ideological struggle.”
 
Jina Emînî, who was detained at a metro station exit in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on September 13, 2022, and tortured during her detention, was taken to the hospital at the insistence of other women in detention. On September 16, 2022, it was announced that Jina Emînî, who was undergoing treatment at Kasra Hospital and whose two kidneys had failed and whose heart and brain had been damaged, had died of cardiac arrest due to the torture her body had endured. Kiaresh Emînî stated that her sister lost her life as a result of torture and that if she had not been taken to the hospital from the police station too late, doctors would have had hope of saving her. Following Jina Emînî's murder, women in Rojhilat and Iranian cities took to the streets with the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” to protest against the government. The uprising, led by women, spread to all segments of society.
 
As a result, actions under the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” began in many parts of the world, particularly in Kurdistan, and turned into an uprising. The Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA) also issued a written statement on this matter.

“In 2022, Jîna was detaned and murdered by the Iranan regme for allegedly volatng “moralty laws.” Her death turned nto mournng for all women across the world—and that mournng became rage. After her kllng, Jîna became a symbol of the systemc oppresson women face. The spark lt by a sngle strand of her har spread across the globe wth the phlosophy of Jn, Jyan, Azadî—Woman, Lfe, Freedom. Women took to the streets n her name, turnng gref nto a cry for freedom. On the thrd annversary of her death, we remember Jîna through our collectve struggle. 
 
From Kurdstan to Latn Amerca, from Europe to Asa, women are buldng truth through ther resstance—fghtng to make the 21st century the century of women’s revoluton. Lke a boundless rver, the global women’s struggle flows forward, carryng wth t the stores of those who resst volence, poverty, war, and erasure—wherever they are. Jîna’s story contnues to flow n ths rver, echong as a song of freedom n the collectve hstory of women’s resstance. 
 
As Kurdsh women, we make the phlosophy of Jn, Jyan, Azadî the foundaton of our entre lves. We carry ths legacy forward—on the street, n the felds, at home, n parlament. Wherever women’s labor and sprt exst, we wll contnue to stand aganst all nsttutonalzed and prvatzed forms of patrarchal volence.
