NEWS CENTRE - Ahmet Turk, Co-Mayor of Mêrdîn Metropolitan Municipality and Murat Karayılan, Co-Mayor of Xalfetî Municipality, who were replaced by trustees, gave the message that they will not step back.  

 

The Ministry of Interior announced that trustees were appointed to Mêrdîn Metropolitan Municipality, Êlih Municipality and Riha/Xelfetî (Halfeti) Municipality under the administration of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).  

 

Ahmet Turk, Co-Mayor of Mêrdîn Metropolitan Municipality, who was replaced by a trustee, wrote on his digital media account: ‘Never give up. We will not step back from the struggle for Democracy, Peace and Freedom. We will not allow the usurpation of the people's will. Let it be known like this!"

 

Mehmet Karayılan: We will be with the people  

 

Xelfetî Municipality Co-Mayor Mehmet Karayılan stated that the trustee decision was notified to him by the police.  

 

Mehmet stated that the trustee decision was ‘not recognising the will of the Kurdish people’. 

 

Mehmet said, "This has been going on for years. The will of the people to govern themselves always comes to pass. The mentality that cannot digest this takes the field every time.

 

This is oppression. Our people do not accept this. We will stand by the community until the end. We will not step back. We will always stay with the community and protect their values. We are the co-chairs elected by the people, we will continue to be with the people even if we are not officially on duty"
