Punishment demanded about 22 journalists in Özgür Gündem Trial

ISTANBUL - The prosecutor demanded punishment about 22 journalists, who were detained in the raid on Özgür Gündem newspaper, on allegations of ‘’opposition’’ and ‘’insulting’’ the police.
 
The trial in which 22 journalists, who were detained in the raid on Özgür Gündem newspaper in August 2016, were tried on charges of ‘’opposition’’ and ‘’insulting’’ was held at the Istanbul 5th Criminal Court of First Instance in Çağlayan. While the journalists on trial did not attend the hearing, their lawyers were present.
 
Prosecutor demanded punishment
 
The prosecutor repeated the opinion he gave at the previous hearing and demanded that the journalists be punished for allegetions of ‘’opposition’’ and ‘’insulting’’ the police in order to prevent the detention. 
 
Hearing adjourned
 
The lawyers, who demanded the acquittal of the journalists, requested time to prepare defense against the prosecutor’s opinion.
The court board accepted the lawyers’ request and adjourned the hearing to December 21.
