DİYARBAKIR - Diyarbakır Peace Mothers Council members said that they embrace the actions of the mothers who have been on vigil action for 45 days at the Sêmalka border to take the bodies. Diyarbakır Peace Mothers Council members called for the KDP to give up from this stance, saying that it is in betrayal. The mothers said, ‘’Those bodies are our honor. I am calling out to all honorable Kurds from here, be the voice of those mothers’’.
The invasion attacks launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) on the Federated Kurdistan Region with the support of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) since April 24 continue. While the reactions towards the use of chemical weapons by the TAF against the areas where People’s Defence Forces (HPG) members are located have increased, it is noteworthy that the government has not made any statement on the subject.
On the other hand, the KDP attacked the group of seven HPG members in Xelîfan on August 28. While five HPG members lost their lives, one of them was taken captive by the KDP, and one HPG member moved away from the area and survived the attack as an injured. The tent action, which is carried out by the families to take the bodies of HPG members, at the Sêmalka Border Gate on the border of the Federated Kurdistan Region and Northern and Eastern Syria, continues on its 45th day.
Diyarbakır Peace Mothers Council members called on the KDP and said that the bodies should be given as soon as possible.
‘If we became a breakfast, they also become a lunch’
Müşer Ülker, the executive of the Association for Assistance and Solidarity with the Families of Detainees and Convicts (TUHAY-DER) and a member of the Diyarbakır Peace Mothers Council, expressed that they embrace the actions of the mothers who were on the Sêmalka border, and commemorated those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom. Criticizing the fact that the bodies of HPG members who lost their lives as a result of the attack were not given, Müşer said, ‘’Our children have been struggling for a long time. As they struggle, they have faced with betrayal. As mothers, we criticize this approach of Barzani. We used to name our children Barzani. We thought he was one of us. Barzani destroyed the value we gave him. He is becoming a party to the massacres, and as if this was not enough, he does not hesitate to shed the blood of his own siblings. The KDP should abandon this policy. Otherwise, Barzani and KDP will be written in history with a great shame. We will never forget what happened. However, Barzani should not forget that; If we became a breakfast, they also become a lunch’’.
‘Bodies are our honor’
Reacting to the silence in the face of what happened, Müşer continued her speech as follows, ‘’It is a great cruelty that the bodies are not handed over to the families. I cannot sleep when I see what mothers are going through in Sêmalka. The KDP is becoming partner with its own enemy. The only thing those families want is to be able to take the bodies of their children. They gave me a travel ban. If I hadn’t my travel ban for abroad, I would have gone and taken part with those mothers. Those bodies are our honor. I am calling out to all honorable Kurds from here, be the voice of those mothers. We have to embrace their struggle’’.
‘Everyone should embrace the action of mothers’
Hatice Öner, a member of the Diyarbakır Peace Mothers Council, said that mothers made a historical resistance in Sêmalka and pointed out that Barzani should act correctly. Stating that Barzani should follow a policy towards the interests of the Kurdish people, not the interests of other countries, Hatice said, ‘’There are people who sacrificed their lives for this country. And their bodies are not given to their families. This is cruelty. The cries of mothers are heard every day. This scream is for being able to take the bodies of their children. Our hearts are with those mothers. If those mothers are lamenting at the border right now, we can lament tomorrow too. Because of this, all Kurds should embrace the action of mothers’’.
‘We stand by mothers who struggle in Sêmalka’
Zerife Güneş, a member of Diyarbakır Peace Mothers Council, said, ‘’Those bodies are our will. We have to claim our will. I greet the families who are on vigil action in Sêmalka. It is a pity that Barzani, an important person for the Kurds, is now being mentioned with betrayal. We condemn this situation. Why is he doing this betrayal and cruelty? The struggle of the families on vigil there is important for us. This struggle is our honor. We, as Peace Mothers, stand by mothers who struggle in Sêmalka’’.
