Acquittal request about 5 journalists

MARDİN - The prosecutor demanded the acquittal of eight people, five of whom were journalists, who were detained and prosecuted while they were following the protests against the appointment of trustees in Mardin.
Trustees were appointed to the Mardin, Diyarbakır, and Van Metropolitan Municipalities on August 19, 2019. Then our agency’s reporter Rojda Aydın, journalists Nurcan Yalçın, Halime Parlak, Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporters Ahmet Kanbal and Mehmet Şah Oruç, and Mehmet Ete, Hamza Ete and Selim Şimdi were detained in the attack on the protest held in Mardin on August 20, 2019, and they were released after seven days. About the eight people, ‘’nol pros’’ decision was given in the investigation carried out with the allegation of ‘’being a member of a terrorist organization’’. In the lawsuit filed with the allegation of ‘’opposition to the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911’’, the prosecution office announced its opinion.
Announcing its opinion before the hearing to be held on 20 October at the Mardin 1st Criminal Court of First Instance, the prosecutor’s office requested to give a decision of acquittal on the grounds that the elements of the charged accusation were not constituted.
The court board is expected to make a decision at the hearing to be held on October 20.
