MARDİN - The funeral of Baran Hasan Rasho, Ezidi woman killed by Serkan Özgün in Midyat, was taken to Shengal by her family.

 

The funeral of Ezidi woman Baran Hasan Rasho, who was killed by Serkan Özgün on August 6 in Şenköy (Ebşî) Neighborhood of Midyat district of Mardin, was taken by her family, which was kept in the Midyat State Hospital morgue. Baran's father, Hasan Rasho Ali, who lives in Europe, came to Midyat to take the funeral. Met by Ezidi group in Midyat, Hasan first went to the Midyat Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and filed a complaint. Hasan then came in front of the morgue.

 

Many women, including Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Batman MP Feleknas Uca, Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists and HDP Mardin Women’s Council members, was met the family in front of the morgue. Making a short statement here, father Hasan said that they had to flee from ISIS persecution in 2014, but the same mentality found them in the place where they took shelter. Hasan interrupted his words after he had emotional moments during the speech.

 

Blocking to the statement

 

Then, HDP Mardin Provincial Co-chair Perihan Ağaoğlu was blocked by the police while she wanted to make a statement. During the discussion, the women chanted ‘’Jin jiyan azadî". Journalists who wanted to take picture of HDP MP Feleknas Uca, who made a statement afterward, were also blocked by the police. In her speech, Feleknas stated that Baran was killed by the same mentality in the country she came to escape from the ISIS massacre, she emphasized that they condemned the femicide.

 

After the statement, Baran’s funeral was taken to Shengal. It was learned that Baran’s mother, Rasho Murê, and other family members went to Shengal for the funeral ceremony.

Baran’s funeral will be buried in Shengal with a ceremony to be held according to the Ezidi faith.
