URFA - Serhat Kurt, the lawyer of the case, visited Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who have been on the ‘justice’ watch in front of the courthouse for 143 days. The call for solidarity with the family came to the fore during the visit.
The ‘justice’ vigil started on March 9 by Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons as a result of the attacks, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, continues on the 143rd day, in front of the Urfa Courthouse. Emine and Ferit, who came in front of the concrete blocks placed in front of the courthouse in the early hours of the morning, left placards on the ground written on: ‘’Justice for All’’, ‘’A mother has been on justice watch in front of the Urfa Justice Palace for 143 days. Her two children and her husband were murdered in the hospital. No lawsuit has been filed for three years because there was a MP in the massacre.’’
‘Hospital-related file could not be opened’
Despite the judicial holiday and the hot weather, the family, who continued their justice watch, was visited by the lawyers of the case, Serhat Kurt. Serhat evaluated the case files related to the attack and the family's struggle for justice. Underlining that more than three years have passed since the massacre, Serhat said: ‘’The massacre at the workplace of the Şenyaşar family and what happened at the Suruç State Hospital have been divided into two separate files. Fadıl Şenyaşar, who was attacked due to the incident at his workplace, was arrested. Enver Yıldız was also arrested from the same file, but the whole Turkish public knows how he surrendered. As a result of the negotiations with the prosecutor's office, he came to the courthouse with a show of strength and surrendered. The case file regarding the hospital has not been opened.’’
‘Removal of the confidentiality decision changes the result’
Noting that the family has been on ‘justice’ watch in front of the Urfa Courthouse for 143 days despite the temperatures reaching 45 degrees, Serhat said: ‘’We have requested to meet with the prosecutor's office many times with the family, but they were not fulfilled. The family was arbitrarily battered and detained five times without any justification, and sometimes they were taken to the hospital. Mother Emine Şenyaşar states that she will not give up the fight for justice even for a moment, despite her being over 65-year-old and her health problems. As file lawyers, we have repeatedly applied for the removal of the confidentiality decision in the hospital file. In Malatya, the decision was made on April 2, 2021, despite the deficiencies in the file. Our hope is that; removal of the confidentiality order on the hospital file. This will also change the outcome of the appealing file.’’
‘We will continue to be with the family’
Saying that the confidentiality decision regarding the hospital was not lifted due to the fact that the judicial authorities are in a ‘climate of fear’, Serhat continued: ‘’The prosecutors are not willing to open the file and prevent the real perpetrators from being revealed. We, the family's lawyers and the Lawyers’ Association for Freedom (ÖHD), will continue to stand by the family as it has been since the first day. Our call is for all bar associations, legal organizations and non-governmental organizations to stand by the family.’’
Serhat, who were in watch with the family for a while in the area called ‘’Şenyaşar family justice corner’’ by the citizens who came to the courthouse, then left in front of the courthouse.
‘Tomorrow might be late’
The family also posted on their virtual media accounts this message: ‘’Mother, in front of the Şanlıurfa Courthouse for 143 days, the paving stones that could not stand her laments melted. Her demand is clear; She wants the killers who murdered her children and her husband in the hospital to be held accountable before the courts. Tomorrow might be late. JUSTICE NOW!’’
