Increasing suicides in Silvan, kidnapping of 2 women in Grê Spî on agenda of parliament

ANKARA - HDP MP Remziye Tosun brought the increasing suicide cases in Diyarbakır’s Silvan district and the two women kidnapped in Northern Syria to the parliament’s agenda.
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun asked the increasing suicide cases in Silvan district of Diyabakır to Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül, and the abduction of two women in Silok and Turkmen towns of Girê Spî Canton in Northern Syria to National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.
‘29 suicide attempts in the last one year’
Remziye stated that the increasing number of suicides in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır, with a population of approximately 90,000, corresponds to almost two and a half times the global average of deaths, according to the 2019 data of the World Health Organization, and that there were 29 suicide attempts in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır in the last year. She noted that 18 of these attempts resulted in death, of which six were women and 12 were men. Remziye mentioned: ‘’It is known that cases of armed suicides are recorded as suicides despite the presence of a suspicious situation. However, it is stated that woman suicide cases may be murder. In Bahçelievler Neighborhood, 40-year-old Ayşe T., mother of seven children, was found hanging from her home with a rope around her neck. In Beypınar Neighborhood, after Mizgin Ş., who committed suicide, her two sibligns were found shot, and the case was recorded as suicide.’’
Remziye asked the following questions for the Minister of Justice to answer:
‘’*How many of the cases where there is a suspicion of suicide have been investigated for murder?
*Is there any investigation opened regarding the violence and murder of women who committed suicide? If so, is the Ministry of Family and Social Services involved in the investigation?
* At what stage is the investigation in Ayşe T., Mizgin Ş. and recorded cases of suicide?
* What are the activities of your ministry regarding suicide cases in Silvan?’’
Remziye asked the Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar to answer the following questions:
‘’*Is your ministry aware of the fact that the Turkish Armed Forces kidnapped two women in Tel Abyad (Girê Spî) in Northern Syria?
*What are the measures of your ministry regarding the unlawful practices of the Turkish Armed Forces in Syria?’’
