ANKARA - HDP MP Filiz Kerestecioğlu brought the gang that forced Afghan refugee children and women into prostitution to the parliamentary agenda, asked: ‘’Have the law enforcement officers who rejected the application been identified and taken action against them?’’
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Ankara MP Filiz Kerestecioğlu asked the Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık about the forced prostitution of Afghan refugee children and women in Ankara and Kırıkkale.
In the parliamentary question, which included information on the subject, it was stated: ‘’It was reported in the press that a gang in Ankara and Kırıkkale sexually assaulted and abused Afghan refugee girls and women and forced them to prostitute by videotaping them. When one of the women wanted to file a complaint in Kırıkkale Police Department, her statement was not taken on the grounds that there was no translator. After the legal and social support provided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the woman was able to file a complaint. Even though an investigation has been launched in Ankara regarding the three incidents that have happened so far, no progress has been made for six months, not even the statements of the suspects have been taken.’’
