ISTANBUL - Lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan made a new application to Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to meet with their clients.
Rezan Sarıca, Raziye Öztürk, Faik Özgür Erol and Cengiz Yürekli, lawyers of Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan, applied again to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, requesting a meeting with their client.
Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office imposed a six-month meeting ban on September 23, 2020, on the grounds of the "Road Map" prepared by Abdullah Öcalan in addition to his defense submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 2009. After this ban, applications made by lawyers were also inconclusive and it was revealed that Abdullah Öcalan was given a new disciplinary punishment in January 2021.
Although the meeting ban ended on March 23, neither a positive nor a negative response to the applications made by the lawyers are received.
Rezan Sarıca and Nevroz Uysal, two of Abdullah Öcalan's lawyers, last met with their clients on May 2-22, June 12-18, and August 7, 2019, after eight years.
The last conversation took place on March 25
Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held under heavy isolation conditions in the İmralı High-Security F Type Closed Prison for 22 years, was given the right to call on the phone for the first time on April 27, 2020. Abdullah Öcalan had a phone call with his brother Mehmet Öcalan on March 25, after the public's concerns about some of the posts on social media grew. Mehmet Öcalan announced that this conversation was interrupted.
