DİYARBAKIR - Leyla Güven,  DTK Co-chair, received imprisonment for 22 years and 3 months. An arrest warrant was issued for Leyla.

 

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Leyla Güven was being adjudged with allegations of "being a member of an organization" and "making propaganda for an organization". The 10th hearing of the case was held at the Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court. While Leyla did not attend the hearing, her lawyers Cemile Turhallı Balsak, Serdar Çelebi and Şivan Cemil Özer attended.

 

The trial prosecutor repeated his previous opinion and accused Leyla as "being a member of the organization" with the allegations that she was "included in the hierarchical structure of the (terror) organization" and "received orders and instructions from the senior executives of the organization".  Prosecutors demanded a prison sentence of 7 years 6 months to 15 years for Leyla.  Prosecutor also demanded one to five years of imprisonment for "making propaganda for a terrorist organization" due to two separate speeches made by Leyla.

 

Her lawyers asked for additional time, court denied

 

Leyla's lawyers pointed out that the indictments in Batman and in Diyarbakır are the same and asked for time for the merging of the files and a detailed defense against the prosecutor's opinion.

 

The court rejected the lawyers' request on the grounds that the criminal charges in the file do not require a joint trial, and asked the lawyers to make their final defense.

 

"Was there a court decision to record  sounds?"

 

Leyla's lawyers stated that they were not trying to protract the file. They added, "The only subject of accusation in the client's file is about whether or not DTK is established by order.Our requests regarding whether the sound recordings were taken by court decision and whether a legal trial will be conducted in line with this decision were rejected on the grounds that it would not add any newness to the file. Our request is renewed, we demand that a decision in accordance with the law is taken and that only evidence is included in the file ”.

 

22 years and 3 months imprisonment

 

Leyla Güven was sentenced to 13 years and 15 months in prison for "being a member of a terrorist organization" and 8 years for two separate "making propaganda for a terrorist organization". There is an arrest warrant for her.
