CFWIJ: 10 women journalists subjected to police violence in July 2021-08-04 16:39:08   NEWS CENTER - In its July report, CFWIJ announced that 10 women journalists in Turkey were subjected to police violence.   The Coalition for Women in Journalism (CFWIJ) published its ‘’July Press Freedom’’ report on rights violations against women journalists. The report included the threats and attacks faced by women journalists and the harassment they were subjected to.   Some of the findings in the report are as follows:   * 61 women journalists were exposed to violence, threats or harassment.   * The three countries with the highest number of cases were Turkey, Georgia and Belarus.   * In July, the highest number of physical violence against women journalists was recorded worldwide. 31 women journalists around the world were subjected to physical violence while following the news. In Turkey, 10 women journalists were subjected to physical violence by the police during following the news.  Most of them were subjected to violence by the police on the grounds of the new circular issued by the General Directorate of Security in mass movements, and news follow-up was prevented. Turkey ranks second in physical violence.   * In July, a total of two women journalists appeared before the judge before the judicial holiday in Turkey. The acquittal of journalist Melis Alphan was brought to the court of appeal upon the objection of the prosecutor's office. * In Turkey, in July, independent journalists Canan Kaya and Nevşin Mengü were targeted on the grounds of the international funds they received to finance their profession following the ongoing immigration debate in Turkey.
